Thumbnail views in Windows Explorer (Win XP)

I had Acrobat 7.0 Pro now I upgraded to Acrobat 8.0 Pro. I can no longer see the small thumbnail views in Windows Explorer. If I had a folder full of PDF's I could change the view of that folder to "Thumbnail view" and I would see very small versions of each individual PDF. Now all I see are adobe icons.

(I already know how to see thumbnails from within Acrobat, so please do not reply with this)

I am using Windows XP Professional SP2.

Thanks for any help!!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1, Windows

Hi chriscrans,

I have read posts from other people about this, but on a Windows XP SP2 system with Acrobat 8.1 Pro if I choose View ->Thumbnails I get thumbnail views of the first page of the PDF. I have not seen a solution for the problem you are having, but wanted to report I do not see this behavior.Hope this helps,

Dimitri

This seesm to be a problem that is getting more and more popular as people upgrade to this "wonderful new version".

Is there a way I can contact adobe directly? We spend mega bucks on multiple licensed versions of this software just to find out they take away great features??? What the heck is this garbage?

Not pleased with the response of this forum. Are there adobe troubleshooters on staff reviewing this forum at all??

Not happy at all.

This feature is still part of Acrobat 8. The pdfshell.dll file controls the thumbnail view in Windows. It sounds as though your dll file was not registered correctly when version 8 was installed. Is this a custom deployment of Acrobat within your environment? Do other computers experience this behavior as well? Sometimes running the "Repair Acrobat installation" command under the Help menu can address this.

FYI -- technical support is also an option available to you to resolve issues as well:

It did not correct the problem when I ran the "Repair". I searched for the file pdfshell.dll and it found it in Program Files (x64) which is where the software is installed. Does it have to be installed in the regular Program Files directory if you have 64 bit on your computer and can it be installed in Program Files?

There is a proposed working fix for the 64-bit Preview Handler in the following U2U forum post:
