Tool for Checking Version of Reader over network.

Hi all,

I am trying to deploy Reader v9.3 to my entire network, but I'm having some trouble.
What I would like to know is who on my network has which version of Reader. I have 200 users and a mixed bag of everything from v.6 to 9.3.
Does anyone have a favorite tool or utility for scanning the network to see who has what version of Adobe reader? Most network inventory tools are overkill for this simple task.

Just wondering.

Unfortunately, this isn't an easy task as explained by Doug in the post Adobe reader version by registry.

Automatically scanning via the registry hives is indeed a nightmare - but one option for a closed network with compliant humans at each keyboard is to send them a PDF (or embed one on your Intranet) that reports back to you via a form. JavaScript in the PDF can collect the version number, and depending on how you get the data back you can collate it against email addresses, IP numbers, etc.

You could automate the process if the PDF is embedded in a web page that everyone visits, as the PDF can export the reader version info to the containing page (no form needed), which can then post it back to your server with AJAX, thus linking the value to the IP address of the browser.
