I would reccomend removing A5 from the system. Not so much regarding having two Acrobats.EXEs and assundry support files, but from issues you may experience in the integration interfaces. Specifically, Adobe PDF and Acrobat Distiller printers; MS-Office PDFMaker Macros (toolbar buttons)and the .PDF file extension.

To keep things clean and tidy, I would Uninstall A8.1, Uninstall A5, Reboot, run CCLEANER (www.ccleaner.com) to "clean up the danglies", reboot, reinstall A8.1, and, yes, reboot again.

It may seen like a lot of effort, but with the A8.1 integration/hooks into A LOT of other areas, extra work like this goes a long way to a smooth Acrobat experience.

Note: If A5 is not allowing it to be removed via Add/Remove programs, use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Hope this helps.
