I bought a used toshiba satellite, it didn't have reader installed so I downloaded 9.0. Every time I try to right click in Windows Explorer, Adobe Acrobat 8.1.0 trys to install. Opened task manager and went to processes to see where this is located
and all it says that it's windows explorer. also ran a search with regedit and came up empty, Can't find where it is so I can delete it. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I installed Acrobat 9 and every time I right click in Windows Explorer I get the "Installing/configuring Acrobat 9" dialog box. I have seem many complaints like this, but haven't found any solutions.

Have you tried to Repair your Acrobat installation (Help > Repair Acrobat Install)? Also, I would recommend updating to the latest point version of Acrobat 8.

I have tried everything. I am using Acrobat 9 and have also tried all of the repairs and the re-installs. I still get the same dialog box, every time I right click in Windows Explorer. I had the same problem with Acrobat 8.

Did you install Acrobat from an administrator account? The installer process needs to make registry changes in some sensitive places (to install system hooks for printing etc) and they tend not to work from a normal user account, especially if you're using Windows User Account Control (UAC)

There may also be a modified set of permissions applied to your registry (in some corporate or pre-installed environments, the hives are locked to all but certain special user accounts).

When you're posting install problems, please include the following in your post so we can help:

- The version of Acrobat or Reader you're installing, and if it's from a download or a CD.
- Your operating system (e.g. Windows Vista 32-bit SP1)
- If you are running it with an administrator account and/or Windows UAC.

thanks

I am running Windows 7, I installed using the Admin account and not using UAC and I am trying to use a CD version of Acrobat 9. I also tried Acrobat 8 and got the same result. Every time I right click in Windows Explorer I get a dialog box saying "Installing/configuring Acrobat 9." I have seen many post on this and have never seen an answer that fixed it.
The program seems to work ok other than that!!

I've messed with it long enough. I got my money back and decided to go with Nitro. I think I might like it better. At least I am not having problems with it so far.
