Updating Exhibit Numbers in document

I am a technical instructor and curriculum developer. I display hundreds of exhibits in my the User Manuals that I develop. Many times, I add a new exhibit number in the middle or beginning of the chapter and need to renumber all of the exhibits manually. I also reference the Exhibit number in the documentation. Is there a way to update the exhibit numbers automatically in Adobe 9?

Acrobat Pro 9.0, Windows

How are you creating those numbers? Do they reside in form fields, or are they just part of the running text of the document?

I am adding the Exhibit numbers as part of the text of documents. Additionally, I reference these Exhibits through the paragraphs as I describe each action that the user takes. What do you recommend?

Thanks,

You can't do it in Acrobat. You need to make the changes in the software that you use to create the original files, and then re-create the PDFs.
