I have a document that I created long ago. I added some additional pages and now when I try to save the document I get an error box titled "NULL" and the error message is "out of memory". Does anyone know what is causing this?

I don't know what's causing that but a good thing to do when faced with that type of problem is to run a registry checker program. That'll often straighten out stuff like that. It may have nothing to do with Acrobat.

Hope this helps...

Acrobat is probably the program I use most often and I'm learning more every day.

Do a Google Search for registry checkers. Some are scams so be careful.

This is the one I use at home and it's saved me more than once with an Acrobat problem that really isn't from Acrobat, but a corrupted registry.

Is there any particular registry I should fix? I ran this registry mechanic and it brought up a lot of warnings. I don't want to mess up the other programs that might be using shared DLLs.

Well, there's only one "registry" and I bet you've not maintained it a while. It will not mess up your other programs; it knows all about shared DLL's. This program will create a restore point before it fixed things; but I think you will find everything will run much better if you maintain your registry on a regular basis.

I did that and it still gives me the same error. Any other suggestions? It only happens with one document. I don't have the same problem with other acrobat docs.

Sorry, I don't have any other suggestions. It may be an error with the document itself. Can you recreate it by adding only a few pages, then saving; and keep saving incrementally? Can you open it and save the original with a new name, before adding pages, and then try adding a few to that a bit at a time?

This is the result of the application asking your computer for more memory use and being told "no". Generally this is caused by having a small amount of computer memory (or swap space which is automatically handled by the OS). If the document is very large you may be at the limits of your computer. When the program asks for more memory the OS usually gives it some and hands back an address of that memory. In this case the OS said "Sorry! no more to give ." and gave the program back all zeros. This "all zeros" value is called a "null" value by programmers.

To work around the problem you could have the document in two pieces or add memory to your computer. This assumes that you cannot reduce the content of the document (such as large diagrams or photos).

After all is said and done, there is always more said than done.
