Acrobat form data to dump in original Excel spreadsheet?

We have numerous forms for various events that we want to post online, have filled out with Reader, and returned. I have tried making a sample form from an Excel spreadsheet using Acrobat 9 Pro. When I filled it out I discovered that the results file should be exported as csv instead of xml to preserve the order of the content.

We will need to be able to manipulate the data after receiving it. Is there any way to get the data to dump into the original Excel spreadsheet that was used to create the form? Would LiveCycle Designer give me more options with the form data or still output in the same single-line format?

Would it be simpler just to leave it as an Excel spreadsheet or is there a better way without complex coding?

Thanks for any suggestions!
