adjusting form content in response to user selection

I'll start by saying that I'm fairly certain this can't be done in Acro forms, or if it *can* be done, it's probably not a practical solution. I just want to be sure I haven't missed any obvious options.

I have a suite of a dozen forms. A group of fields+labels are repeated on all the forms, but each form also has a handful of unique fields/labels as well. The footprints of the unique fields vary widely in size across the suite.

The original vision for this project was to have a dropdown list at the top of a single document, with the repeated fields below the dropdown list. When the user selected the desired form type from the dropdown list, the fields unique to that form type would appear *between* the dropdown list and the repeated fields. (Our webmaster will be designing this in HTML later in the year, but they want an interim PDF solution now.)

If the footprints of the unique fields were identical or at least similar, I think I could script something with hidden fields, where only the unique fields for the selected form type were displayed.

But the unique fields for some of the forms take up 8 or 10 lines, while others take up nearly a full page, and they have to go *before* the repeated fields...which means the repeated fields would have to be moved to different locations on the page depending on the form type.

I know that can be done in LiveCycle, but I don't have time to learn it right now. So I'm thinking I'm just going to have to create a dozen separate forms with a landing page where the user selects the form type, which opens the correct form.

Anybody have any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

I think your assessment is a good one. If I wanted to do something like this, I would probably be OK with the repeating fields being on a subsequent page or pages, assuming the unique fields would all fit on the first page for each form. But I realize it may not be acceptable here.

Thanks, George. It's true, segregating the repeating fields on separate page isn't really an option in this situation.

So I'm creating a dozen forms, but at least I'll be able to reuse most of the fields across all the forms...

Thanks again for validating my assessment here!
