Hi there,

I think it is like a bug, but maybe you can call it a "feature". :P But it is annoying for me and I want to post my problem here(since I don't know where to put this). Hopefully, someone will fix that problem.

OK. I am using Acrobat Reader X on a XP SP3 X86-32 PC. On my Windows XP, I mapped a network drive on another machine as "z:". To view the files on z:, I need to login and input a password (the password is not saved by windows).

The Reader was working well. I can open it, read pdf files. Also, I used it to opened some pdf files on the z:.

Next day, I try to open the same file on z:. But I used a different way. I just double click the Reader icon on the desktop. And I saw the file on the "recent opened file list". Then I just click the file name. And the Reader seems to hang forever. At first, I didn't realize that it is on a network drive and need a password to access the network drive "z". I thought if it need, the Reader should ask me for that. Therefore, I was very disappointed, because the Reader cannot open the pdf file, and there is no error message. And I tried to kill the Reader process by using task manager. And it failed to kill it. Finally, I have to restart my computer, twice, because I tried again.

In the end, I found out it is the network drive password problem. But I think the Reader should provide some kind of error message or hint to the user so that I know what is happening. Also, since when open the Reader directly, there is no "full path" name for the recent used files. So it is very easy to forget that the file is on a network drive and need a password to access.

Hope this problem can be fixed.
