Can I create barcodes with a fixed value?

Please forgive me if the answer to this question is obvious. I am kind of a noob at using Acrobat, although I am getting better all the time. Or at least I hope I am.

Anyway, I am converting PDF documents into forms to be used during high school registration. They are going to be downloaded by the parents, completed on their computers at home, then printed out and turned in at school. One of the forms is the shopping list where students can order the yearbook, locks for their locker, P.E. clothes, etc. In the past, when this form was just photocopied and mailed out, someone cut out and physically pasted the barcodes for the various items onto the form.

Besides looking sloppy, the original barcodes are not printing well, probably due to the resolution on the PDF I received from the school. I am wondering if it is possible to create new barcodes using the Add New Field command in Acrobat and specify the value the barcode is supposed to have... assuming I can find out from the student store what value that is.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.0, Macintosh

You can use barcode fonts instead of raster images.
