Cannot fill fillable PDF forms

I use a lot of internet fillable PDF forms, then print. In the last several days many of the fillable forms will not fill. The cursor highlights the entire page or jumps around. It also stops below the line to fill and nothing can be typed into the form.

Has Adobe made this feature available only if you purchase the product as I was told by Customer service?

Thanks,

First off, Acrobat/Reader is not supposed to do this. As usual Adobe Customer Service has no idea what they are talking about, the person may have been thinking of fill and save. From Reader you should be able to fill and print any fillable form that was ever made. It is definately a bug in Reader 9 and you should write Adobe support about it.

However, you might have found this bug because there is something odd about the forms. Do you know if any of these forms were Reader Enabled for previous version of Acrobat? That could definately cause problems.

If the form had usage rights in adobe reader enabled when created, you should be able to fill out the form with the free acrobat reader. When a form has fillable fields, when opened with the reader it shows a purple tab at the top that says "please fill out the following form" otherwise the form is not fillable in acrobat reader but "by hand"
Sometimes the purple tab does not show and by clicking the first icon on the left pane inside the reader you can know if its a fillable form (icon looks like a white page with two purple rectangles)

Was the PDF fillable prior to the upgrade to version 9?

The form could have been scanned into a PDF as an image and no further processing was done to add the form filets above the scanned image and enabling the extended reader form rights.
