Cannot select check boxes in for field calculation

Acrobat 9 Professional: I have a form with quantity & unit price, for which I want to do a calculation of Total Price.

Quantity, Unit Price, and Total Price are all formatted correctly as numbers.

When I open Properties for the Total Price field, then click the Calculate tab, I select "product of", but then I cannot select Quantity or Unit Price. The only thing I can do is "Select All" or "Deselect All".

So, I can't create a calculation, which should be really easy! Is it something with my installation, a patch I need to apply, or am I totally missing something? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I hope it's would not be because I must upgrade to the Pro Extended version..... :-(

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.3, Windows

Hi MaggieS,

So after you click the button labeled "Pick" after you select Product Of you do not see a list of fields in the following dialog that appears? I just tried this and it worked fine for me in Acrobat 9 Pro.

And No, you do not need Acrobat 9 Pro Extended for this at all- in fact you can do this with Acrobat 9 Standard. All I can suggest with the info you've given is to try a Detect and Repair from the Help menu in case something did get corrupted in Acrobat.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Did you create the form in Acrobat or in LiveCycle?

Wow, folks--that was FAST!!! I created the form in Word then turned it into a PDF. All the fields are acting correctly except this one. (Actually it's Acrobat Pro 9.3.2 that's I'm using.)

I can bring up the Calculate tab, and the list of all the form fields in the doc do show up with an empty checkbox to the left of each field. When I try to click in the checkbox, the entire field gets highlighted, but the checkbox doesn't get populated. In desperation, I even tried holding down the CTRL key (like you do in web-based forms), but no joy.

Hope this additional info helps. I believe there's yet another update to 9.0 available, so maybe I should install that?

Is it possibly something I could have done in the initial install? As I recollect, I simply checked something like "typical install".

Thanks again, wizards!

Maybe you can post your file to Acrobat.com or a file sharing site like rapidshare.com and we could have a look at it.

try67: I figured out how to use rapidshare. Here's the download link:

There is an error in your script. Also you have a number of duplicate fields stacked upon one another.

It's very odd...
I don't know exactly how it happened, but there are some corrupted "ghost" scripts in this document.
I think I managed to get rid of them, though. Try this version:

Yes, all the Total PriceRow fields are doubled. I removed the first one, but you should remove the other ones as well.

Edit: Sub total and total due are also double.

gkaiseril--Thank you!!!!!!! The form is working fine now. Where was the script error?

I found the duplicate fields by sorting the fields by field name in the left pane & deleted the duplicates. Everything seems to be working fine now.(BTW, although the form is working, I still can't get those darn checkboxes to work....)

All of you are amazing!!!! Thanks so much for jumping in and helping this newbie get an important form working. Heaven only knows how I got so many duplicate fields into the doc, but at least I'll know what to look for if it happens again. I really needed to get this working so that I could move along to other forms as well. Wish I could "pay it forward", but as a newbie, that's probably not in the picture. However, I'm pretty good at Word......

Thanks again--you made my day!

Hi All,

I seem to have the same problem as the original poster. I used a Word document to create a PDF, then used the Acrobat Forms Wizard to generate the fields. When trying to create a field that calculates a value from other fields, I can't get Acrobat to checkmark the fields in the Properties >> Calculate popup. Only the "Select All" and "Deselect All" buttons work to check the boxes. However, I do not see any duplicated field names in my forms. Try67, is it possible for you to elaborate on what you did to get the other form working for the previous poster? Was it just deleting duplicate fields? You also mentioned "corrupted "ghost" scripts". How would someone go about looking for these in the file (i.e., how would you access those)?

Appreciate any help and many thanks!

Cheers,
JWFetz

Hi,

I'm the original poster. If you look at the field list on the left side of the window, you can easily see duplicate fields---they'll have numbers after them. They can be deleted directly from the listing; you don't have to go into the form to delete them (which is handy, because a lot of times, you can't see them in the form).

I never did get a solution to make the checkboxes to work for selecting forms. I had to use "Simple Field Notation" in order to get my form to calculate.

Sigh.

Hi All,

Nevermind... In playing with the field selection window I have noticed that if you click on the extreme lower left-hand corner of the checkbox that it will activate by filling it in with a check. Not sure what is causing this, but if you click anywhere else on the checkbox nothing happens. Adobe must have the clickable checkbox element set to a fraction of the actual checkbox size, so only this lower left-hand corner is active.

Hope that helps someone.

Cheers,
JWFetz

OMG, JW--clicking on the extreme lower left of the checkbox works! I'm amazed you were able to figure that out, and it certainly does help me!

MaggieS,

Thanks for the quick reply. See my post above. I'd be curious to know if clicking the lower left-hand corner of the checkboxes wil activate the boxes on your system? Perhaps this is a bug Adobe needs to know about. ???

I only stumbled on this because I was clicking like mad on a box to see if it would activate. Accidently moved the mouse down in that area and got a check. Played a little more on other boxes and noticed the pattern. It definitely helps me out too. :)

jwfetz,

Does this help?

Problem:
The display size is set to an amount greater than 100% on Windows 7.

Solution:
1. Right click on an empty location within your Desktop
2. Choose "Personalize"
3. Choose "Display" (at the end left column)
4. Set the font size to "Smaller-100% (default)"

Then, after logging off the computer and the logging back on try the checkboxes again. They should be MUCH EASIER to check!

This is solving a number of issues that are appearing at our work for Windows 7 users. I was able to duplicate the problem you experienced while using Acrobat 9 Pro on Windows 7. Checking the boxes was nearly impossible.
