Check Box shows "x" rather than a check mark

I created some check boxes and they all show "x" when I click the box instead of a check mark. When I check the text box properties, it is set as a check box. If I choose the selection of "square" then click the box, it's totally black. When I go back and change the text box to a "check box" then click, a check mark shows up.
Can someone help me with this?

I have the same problem. tThe problem is what the keyboard can type. I do not believe the check mark is part of the character map supplied by Windows . If it does, then you would have to use javascript to set it up.
