Check Boxes grouped as a series

I am using the "add or edit fields" feature in Adobe 9. My document originated as a Word file and was converted to PDF by Adobe 9. I have a series of check boxes numbered in sequence (e.g. - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Adobe insists on treating them as a group and allowing only one of the boxes to be checked at a time. It also will not allow the one checked box to be unchecked.

I have searched in the "properties" box for an option that would impact this, but without any success.

I want the user of the form to be able to select multiple boxes in the series and to uncheck boxes if they need to after making their initial selection.

Any ideas?

Try making the name of each check box something different. Acrobat treats check boxes that are near each other from Word files as the same group and therefore you cannot select more than one without a keystroke modifier (usually ctrl). The only other way around this without special coding is to delete the check boxes and use a radio group instead. There is a setting within the radio group properties to allow for multiple selections.

I have not used Acrobat 9 yet, but in all the previous versions there is a "Check box is checked by default" setting on the options tab. That may be affecting why you cannot uncheck the one box. Also check to make sure it is not set to read only or locked in the properties.
