Is it possible to create a PDF that generates its own bar code or unique ID number when it is printed?

You can create barcodes in a form using LiveCycle Designer (part of Acrobat 8 Pro.) However, if the end-users are filling out the PDF form with Reader then the barcode will be encrypted. If the are using Acrobat Standard or Professional then the barcode is not encrypted, which means the barcode can be read by Adobe's Decoder, a hand scanner, or third party tool capable or reading 2D barcode. If you license the Adobe barcode forms technology then the barcode will not be encrypted wil filling in and printing with the free Reader.
