Custom form fields not accessible after saving in read mode

I wonder if you've run into this in Acrobat 9 Standard. Having created form fields on a static PDF, I save the document, then reopen it in both reader 8, and Acrobat 9, but am unable to access the fields unless I open it in Edit mode under Acrobat 9. There is something in the process that isn't explained in Help Topics that I am obviously missing.
looking for the missing clue, can you help?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

Not sure if you have this in Acrobat Standard as I have the pro version but if you open up the toolbars and choose Advanced editing, if you select the arrow, you can then double click the fields that you wish to edit. Hope this helps?

Hello. Thank you for attempting to answer the question:
Let me clarify:

1) I enter the fields in the places where want them.
2) I save the document.
3) when I reopen the document, it appears as if there are no fields in place, where I entered them.

Reopening the document under Acrobat 9 Standard, in Edit Mode, I can see and enter text into the form fields I previously placed in the document.

Regarding the use of Reader and PDF form files.

To permit Adobe Reader to "fill in forms" you will have to obtain Acrobat Professional.
With the PDF form created and to permit Adobe Reader to fill in the forms & retain the data:Use Acrobat 8 Professional
Advanced > Enable Usage Rights in Adobe ReaderUse Acrobat 9 Professional
Advanced > Extended Features in Adobe ReaderBe well...

Be well...

Acrobat 9 Standard can also apply extended reader form rights.
