I would like to have a submit button on a PDF that allows the user to email the complete PDF, not just the data to an email address and not a URL... is this possible?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Hi mvoorhees,

What program will the users have to fill out the form? Do they have the free Adobe Reader, or will each user have Acrobat Standard or Professional?

What version of Acrobat do you have for creating the form?

The answers to those questions will determine what is possible for the Submit button for getting the complete PDF (with filled data) back from the users.

If you have Acrobat 8 Professional you can create a Submit button to email the entire form- simply choose that option in the button's Properties ->Actions when you create it. If the users only have Adobe Reader you MUST enable the form for fill and save with the Enable Usage Rights feature of Acrobat 8 Pro (this is only available in Acrobat 8 Pro). If you have an earlier version of Acrobat Pro you cannot add these rights so end users with only the free Reader will not be able to send you the complete form unless they have Acrobat Stnd or Pro themselves.
Here is an article by Kurt Foss here at AUC that explains the usage rights enabling-

Here is an article that discusses the various ways form data can be submitted, including emailing-

I hope this helps get you going, but a more definitive answer could be provided if you submit the question again and provide the version of Acrobat you have and what the users will have for filling out the form.

Thank you Dimitri for your quick response. I am still having no luck making it work correctly, it only gives me the option to use a URL. I am using Professional 8.0 and the users will be a mixed bag as the form will be posted to our website. I have saved the document as reader enabled and then opened it up in the LiveCycle application to apply the button. I click on the "Submit" button on the Field tab and when I go to the submit tab it only has URL field. Am I missing a step?

try this- for the URL SUBMIT field, place a mailto tag.

ie:

mailto:youraddress [at] adobe [dot] com

Hello,

This site does not allow HTML tags embedded in comments. However, you can use [url=javascript:openPopWindow('/help/bbcode_formatting.php','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=625,height=550')]BBCode[/url] to format your comments.

The mailto tag in the previous comment by joepriestley should look like this:

mailto:&lt;a href="mailto:<a href="mailto:<span class="spamspan"><span class="u">youraddress</span> [at] <span class="d">adobe [dot] com</span></span>"><span class="spamspan"><span class="u">youraddress</span> [at] <span class="d">adobe [dot] com</span></span></a>"&gt;<a href="mailto:<span class="spamspan"><span class="u">youraddress</span> [at] <span class="d">adobe [dot] com</span></span>"><span class="spamspan"><span class="u">youraddress</span> [at] <span class="d">adobe [dot] com</span></span></a>&lt;/a&gt;
