Extended Forms: Ambiquities

First off, thanks for Extended Forms articles! In going thru them I have encountered general issues that might help others learn, or maybe serve as points to be clarified in future articles.

1. Once form is created, and I chose Distribute via Email, the first warning I get states that Acrobat "Could not detect a SUBMIT button." There is one there, and defined via Edit. It allows you to continue however. How do you "properly" make Acrobat recognize the form button?

2. When I entered an e-mail to send forms back to it wouldnt allow me to enter an email address stating "Secure Forms return is not allowed on this Form". Next screen allowed me to enter an email address manually. Did I miss out on a cool feature not being able to make it Secure? Then when I chose Done, it said Aborted, recipient name is Ambiguous.

3. When the forms come back, and I open them in Acrobat, it was a little confusing whether to Export the data or Compile it. Nothing internal ppopped up to guide me like the article suggested.

Somehow I did get it into a .csv spreashett. It is a cool function and I look forward to learnign more! Thanks for the education.

1). Not sure wehat you mean by "Defined via Edit." You create a button and use the Submit a form action. In the Submit Form Selections dialog box, enter the email address where you want the form to be returned. Type mailto:youraddress [at] xxx [dot] com in the Enter a URL for this link text box. Following these steps shouldn't produce any warning dialog box when you distribute a form.2). If your file is not secure, you shouldn't see any warning dialog when distributing a form using the Distribute Form Wizard. Follow the setps above on a form where permissions do not prevent Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing existing digital signatures.

3). When forms are returned to you (assuming you identified a dataset and have not deleted it during the distribution process), just double click the email file attachment. The form is added to the dataset in the form of a PDF Package. When you open the PDF Package, just click Export on the Forms toolbar and a dialog box opens prompting you to save the file as a .csv file you can open in Excel.

Alternately, you can aggregate data from forms by selecting Forms > Manage Form Data > Merge Data Files into Spreadsheet. A wizard opens prompting you to add the files you want to merge. Click the Add files button, add the files to the Wizard window, and click the Export button. Again you're prompted to save as a .csv file. The process for distributing forms and collecting the data is straight forward assuming you follow the steps as outlined above. If you experience problems, the first place to start is checking the Submit Form button you created, then the dataset created in the Distribute Form Wizard.
