I am a teacher (little Acrobat experience) converting all our school paper forms to .pdf. Each one page pdf form is in a folder with a a file that navigates. A user will access these and save them to a folder of their choice, never in the "library" folder. Inevitabley, somebody will fill out the form or save it there so I want to reset it on closing the form. Problem is, if this script is saved to their folder, it will delete data every time the file is edited. I am assuming I need a script that will remove the reset on closing the saved document. Your advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.0, Windows

Why not set the attributes of the pdf files to 'Read-only' in the file system? That way when the user tries to save, they will be prompted for a "New" location. Not fool-proof, but it usually works quite well, and can be done via Windows Explorer.

Good Luck

Oh what a simple, elegant solution! Unfortunately I have to ask how are pdf files set to read-only? Neither my books or Google offers any help on the subject.

It is done through your Operating System. You can use certificates or passwords to lock the internal contents of the PDF but this is not what has been posted as a solution.

Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the location where the PDF is stored. Move the mouse over the file icon or name and right mouse click, select the "Properties" option, check the "Read Only" option and click "OK".

If I save as read only, how do teachers open and save to their folder in an editable file? I am afraid our staff will balk at anything but what they consider a straight forward method. I'll be burned at the stake by our administration if this problem isn't solved!

If you set the file to be read only through the OS no one can save or over write the file in that location, but they can save it into another directory of course if you are using SharePoint or a Web server the user should not easily be able to save back to the source location.

I just installed Adobe Acrobat 9. There are two issues: 1) The Help menu doesn't work. Will I need to reinstall the program to make it work or is this a known issue in Acrobat 9. 2) I would like to always see the files listed in detail view (i.e. with the last date and time opened) when I go to File, Open. Can anyone help? Thank you.

You will get more answers by creating a new post. You also might want to include what Operating System and OS Version.

1) Try fix and repair either under help or through Windows control pannel.
2) Only if MicroSoft change the OS open dialog.
