Filling in PDF forms

Does anyone know if the 8.0 reader will allow folks to fill in and save Acrobat forms? It seems very cost prohibitive to create forms in Acrobat if each user filling it out must have the full-blown Acrobat to fill it out.

The title of "Reader" says it all. For Reader to save a PDF form requires that the author or distributor of the PDF performs a special process to Extend Reader Rights to save the completed form. That is the ability of Reader version 5.01 or above to save form data is a function of the PDF form and not Reader.

Do note that this feature is available only from Acrobat V8.1.
Acrobat V7.x does not support this feature!

Further clarification: You need Acrobat 8 professional to create forms that can be saved with data, as per the second answer above.

Your users need Acrobat Reader 7 or 8 to fill them out and save with data. Both of those programs are free.

Acrobat is probably the program I use most often and I'm learning more every day.

If the form is created in Acrobat 8.1 Professional using Acrobat Forms Tool, not LiveCycle Designer, and the Extended Reader Rights are enabled, then users with Reader version 5.0.5 or above should be able to mail the form and users with Reader version 6 or above can save the filled in form.

What can I do with 8.1 Reader that cannot fill in forms, even though the tools show that the form gives rights to fill in?

I designed a form with LiveCycle 8 and enabled user rights w/ Professional 8 - went to check to see if it worked by opening the form again w/ Pro 8 and it's just a PDF - does not accept field input. Anyone know what's wrong? It works in LiveCycle Preview but not in Pro 8.
