Forced to edit in "Lifecycle Designer" - Why?!?!

There are moments working with this program that can bring a man to tears...and today I'm almost there.

I have created a full set of fillable Employment Applications using Pro Extended...not Designer...Pro Extended.
And since then I have successfully opend / saved / updated / corrected all of these MASTER files in Pro Extended for months...

...until today.

Now when I select FORMS > my ONLY choice is to "EDIT FORM IN DESIGNER" - no longer can I edit it in PRO Extended!

Even "Saving As A Copy" or Running "Start Form Wizard" lands me back in "Designer"

Simple two part question:
Why?
What can I do to get back to editing solely on PRO Extended.

Thanks!
John.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.2, Windows

Hi jwbrett,

You may have inadvertantly made a change to your form that is causing this problem. First, check the File ->Properties and see what the creator of the PDF is- make sure it is Acrobat Pro Extended. If it says Acrobat Pro Extended, then use the Select Object tool to see if you can edit the properties of a form field. See these videos for help on that in a PDF AcroForm-
http://www.pdfscripting.com/public/34.cfm#FirstForm

Also, check on the Security tab to see if any restrictions have been applied.

This should give you enough to go on for now- let us know what you find.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Dimitri,
Bless you and your sweet smile.

Here's what we've got:
DOCUMENT PROPERTIES > DESCRIPTION > APPLICATION: Adobe Acrobat 8.1 Combine FilesDOCUMENT PROPERTIES > SECURITY > SECURITY METHOD: No Security ... and all show "Allowed" with the exception of the last item - Creation of Template Pages: Not AllowedSo I guess I'm left with starting over from scratch, as my understanding is that I can't take this PDF and run it through the "Start Form Wizard" without being sent directly to Designer, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200 (remember when that seemed like a lot of money?).

What really has me befuddled is that all of the Employment Applications that have been turned in over the last year are all doing the same...forcing into Lifecycle...rather than being able to be edited in Pro Extended...(i.e. changing a font size, etc.)

It feels as though some recent PRO Extended update has gone whacko as it has in the past.

If you have any other ideas would love to hear them.

Thanks again...and keep smiling!
John.

Hi jwbrett,

This does sound very wierd.

What happened when you tried to activate the Select Object tool from the Advanced Editing menu?

Hi John
I've recently run across the same issue, and found--actually stumbled--across a solution that may or may not work for you.

My company is in the process of evaluating pdf editing/manage software--especially form filling software. I found that after I created the forms in Live Designer, I was like you, forced to use LD as my only editor. But when I opened the form in another form filling software (say, Cute Formfiller) made a simple change, then saved-as and renamed the document and then reopened the saved-as document back in Acrobat 8 Pro, I could edit the form in Pro, but not LD.

I find this useful as I need the font selections and capabilities of LD, but other features of Pro that LD doesn't have. So I create the document in InDesign, create the fields in LD, then basically edit the fields in Pro after the "conversion".

Hope this helps.

John
