Acrobat is a document finishing tool, not an editing tool. Content such as images, should be added in the applicaion that originally created the document, before it was converted to PDF.
However, there are several ways to add images to a PDF. None of them are like Word. For example you could add the image as a Stamp, or Watermark. You can also cut and paste images from other PDF files using the object touchup tool.
