Issue with check boxes and printing

I do a lot of form conversion from Word .doc files and I use Acrobat 8.0's Form Field Recgonition tool. It converts check boxes from Word forms to check boxes for Acrobat forms but, when I print out the form, instead of showing a check in the check box the check box is filled with a black square.

I get the black square even when I manually draw the check box.

Sometimes I get the black square when I have copy and pasted the same check box into the form but in other areas, using the same copy and pasted check box but renamed, I get the check icon like I should.

Has anyone else gotten this graphic issue? Does anyone know how to fix it? Right now I have forms where showing black boxes and check marks.

You can change the "Check Box Style" in the field's properties. You can access this through the context menu for the field.

I understand that but that's not the issue.

Let's say I have a form and all check boxes are set to the traditional check mark.

When I go to print it, some of the checked boxes will show a black square instead of the check mark even though on the screen it's displaying the check mark in the box.

Yesterday I made a form with a number of check boxes on it that were all copy and pasted (and then renamed) from one, original check box. Some of the check boxes show the black space and others show the check mark when I print the form.

It doesn't make any sense to me.

You can either use the form field navigation pane or the formtool bar. You can go to the desired field in the navigation pane or to the field, highlight the field, right click the mouse, select the 'Properties' context menu option, select the 'Options' tab, select the 'Check box style' you want, and click the 'Close' button when satisfied.

The options are as you describe and it still prints a black square rather than a check mark.

does the issue appear in the print preview, too?
if not, it may be some trouble with the printer driver.

Then you can try to print with the the form with the option "print as image" selected from the advanced menu of the print preview.

Well, I couldn't find an option for print preview like in Office programs so are you referring to the preview pane when you chose the printer option? If so it appears that the black boxes are there too. I tried the print as image option and the black boxes were still there.

Do you think it would be the printer driver? Some of the check boxes do print as a check mark when checked; if it was a driver issue I'd figure they'd all be black boxes.

For whatever reason it appears to be a problem with the check mark graphic. When I chose any of the other options it's fine. I'll just use the cross option and be good. Thanks.
