Livecycle's check boxes when auto-detected

Just received 8.0 Pro this week but have worked for years with PDF forms in 5.0. If LiveCycles detects and places check boxes on a form, why can't those check boxes display an "X" (or cross) when selected? If a check box is selected from the Library and manually placed on a form, an "X" appears when box is selected. Why the difference between the two methods? Or, what am I doing wrong? Thanks, Charlie

Acrobat is actually doing the auto-detection, not Designer. Change the default Checkbox properties in Acrobat "Cross" instead of "Check" to get the effect you want.
