I am creating a form but would like to restrict users from entering data on certain fields. How do I set up the form so that users cannot enter text in the SSN for example.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.1.3, Windows

Just set the field to read-only. You should also set the default value of the field to the value of the field so that if the form gets reset that number that's there won't get removed.

Thank you George. Can you share the "How To". How do I set a field to read only?
I tried right clicking...no luck. Also checked menu options and I do not see a "Read only" option for individual fields. Many thanks!!

Hi tcarsoncanady,

Right-click on the field and select Properties. In the Field Properties dialog under the General tab there is a check box for Read Only in the Common Properties section.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

When you select the field with the Select Object, right-click, and select Properties. On the General tab of the field properties dialog, there is a "Read Only" check box. On the Options tab is where you specify the Default Value.
