Maintain consisten font point size in filling out my form in Adobe

Answered

I have begun to work with Adobe Acrobat 7 professional. I have been sent a form on-line that I have downloaded and need to fill out and print. The way the form is set up most of the fields have sufficient space to fill in requested information. Where this is not the case, Adobe wants to change the point size. How can I prevent Adobe from doing this. That is, I want to consistently maintain the same font point size in every field. I would rather shorten my answer in the field and maintain the same point size so that the page looks consistent from top to bottom. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

If you're talking about a form that you create, then you would set the font size to whatever you want, as opposed to Auto. For forms that someone else creates, there's generally not much you can do. But if the document's security settings allow, you can modify the text fields with Acrobat (not Reader) to suit yor needs.

Using the same above referred to form, I am having difficulty adding special formatting to the form such as bolding, underlining and etc. Even though I highlight a line of text that I have added, I can find no way to work with the text except to delete it. I have tried selecting the text and then some one said to apply Ctrl + e ... but I get no dialogue box to come up that allows me to work with the text. I am stuck! Can anyone help out here. You can see my earlier posts for details as to the origin of the form, my version of Adobe (7 pro) or ask any additional questions that may provide insight as to what I can do. Thank you

Hi --

The answer lies in an earlier response. Unless you're the form author, you are limited in what you can change. Also, using the special formatting applies to content added to comments, or text you write to a new page, and won't have any impact within a form field's contents.

Actually the earlier response was not altogether accurate. I have two forms fom the same author. The one I added text to and have actually been able to underline, bold ... etc., to the data I filled in. I printed it and the special formatting (bold and underline) is there in black and white. The other form I just cannot seem to do anything to the material I typed in. So .... anything you have to add I am willing to listen to

Jerry,

Text fields can be set up to allow Rich Text formatting or not. It sounds the first form has fields that allow this while the other does not. So, how a particular field behaves depends on how the form creator configured it. You may be able to change how a field behaves if document's security settings allow. Also, you may not have the Properties Bar visible (Ctrl + E) if the field in question does in fact allow Rich Text formatting.

I thank all of you including George and Donna. I mean no disrespect in my responses. I am totally new to Adobe and so do not claim any knowledge whatsoever. So, please be patient with this 70 year "old man"

If there is a chance that I can add formatting to the 2nd form in question, what do I need to adjust or change to find out.

Appreciatively

It might be easiest if we could take a look at the form ourselves. Can you provide a link to it? If not, I'd be happy to take a look at it if you are able to email it to me. Be sure to indicate which field it is you're asking about.

Sorry to be so long in getting back. Because of the confidential nature of the form I was not allowed to send it. I have submitted the problem to my supervisor and they are addressing it. I apologize for that.
I do have another question that perhaps can be addressed here. Some of the fields on my form compress the text by reducing the point of the font. So I end up with one field with a 16 point font as it were and another with what looks like six point. Is there away to turn that feature off, or, is that also controlled by the creator of the form?

Yes, that's controlled by the creator of the form.

The size of the font for the field is set to "Auto", as opposed to a fixed size. Acrobat will reduce it (to a minimum size of 4) in an attempt to show all of the text that is entered into the field.

Thanks for all the continuing help with Adobe. I am gradually learning. Even though I have worked with hardware as well as software for a number of years, it never seems to come easy. Can someone help me find where to turn off the type ahead feature ... or the feature that suggests text to be inserted that has been typed earlier. Thanks for the help

Is is ok to ask here about Adobe writer? I was wondering about its costs. Also if one can purchase any kind of suite (if that is the proper term) that includes the reader and writer? In my work I am being required more and more to use particularly the reader. Thought however that having the writer would be an advantage. However I hear it is very costly. Any imput would be appreciated.

Edit: I have adobe acrobat pro 7. The more reading I do the more confused I get. Is acrobat pro the same as the so called "writer"? That seems to be the impression I am getting. I keep hearing about "Writer" but find nothing except comments about "Adobe Acrobat" verses "Adobe Reader." Any comments here would be extremely helpful and very much appreciated by this 70 year "old" man.

If by "writer" you mean Adobe Acrobat, there are several versions available, including Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, and Acrobat Pro Extended. You can find more information, a demo version, and pricing information at Adobe's web site.

I want to thank everyone for their help to a new learner. I also need help to get back to the location where new questions can be posted. I have spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get there. Could someone please provide a link to where general questions can be asked. I have as noted Adobe Acrobat professional 9

At the same time perhaps some one could give me some help right here. I am trying to figure out how to use the type over feature that is usually accessed by pressing the insert key. At least that is how it work right here in this block. However on a form I am filling out, pressing the insert key does not accomplish the same procedure. I would be deeply grateful if someone would advise if this is even possible with my version of AA. Thanks again, and please don't forget a link to get me to where I can begin posting new or additional questions

Ok ... it was right in front of me all the time at the bottom of this page. Sorry! But if someone could address the insert question, it would be appreciated
