hi,
i am tyring to make a form similar to the one found here:
http://www.ncca.ie/en/Curriculum_and_Assessment/Early_Childhood_and_Primary_Education/Primary_School_Curriculum/Assessment/Report_Card_Templates/RCT_1.pdf

however when i create the form and view it in reader I am told "you cannot save data typed into this form"

would appreciate a suggestion on how to overcome this and let people add text to fileds and save the pdf via reader,

thanks

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.0, Windows

Accepted Answer
You need to Reader-enable the document: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features

Where do you find Reader Extendable PDF?

When I do save as my choices do not include Reader extended PDF.

So what in the world is the post from DVD about? Certainly doesn't answer - or even address my question. Maybe it has something to do with Acrobat but I don't see it.

Gus,

What version of Acrobat are you using? What I posted was for Acrobat 10. For Acrobat 9, it would be under: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader.

Another Question.
Someone created forms for me and now they are gone so I am on my own to correct them. Forms were created in InDesign (CS5), saved as fillable forms in PDF format (Acrobat 9). I have the INDD file and the PDF file. How do I make corrections?

What sort of corrections do you need to make? Do you have access to InDesign?

Yes. I have InDesign (CS5). I need to correct spelling of a word, add a word, and reverse 2 lines.

Also, email says I need to mark a post as correct answer but don't see where to mark. (I'm new at all this!) Thanks for all your patience and help! You are helping to save my life or at least my job! :-)

Maybe what I should have said/asked is this:

Do you make corrections in the original INDD file or in the PDF?

I know how to make all the corrections in the INDD file but then I do not know how to save it to a fillable PDF form. (Would love to know this, please, for future use even if it is not what I do now.)

If I need to make changes in the PDF fillable form itself, I don't know how to get into edit mode.

I appreciate your help.

OK, all you need to do is open the INDD file in InDesign, make the changes that need to be made, and generate a new PDF. Then in Acrobat, open the old PDF that contains the form fields and replace the old pages with the new (Document > Replace Pages). Any form fields, links, bookmarks, code, etc. will be retained and only the underlying page contents will be changed.Regarding the email you received, just ignore it. You cannot mark it as answered because you did not start this topic and it has already been marked as answered.

Thanks. This worked beautifully. You have been a huge help!

If I want to learn how to add form fields, etc. to PDF documents, where would be the best place to go to learn?

There are many forms-related resources right here, just browse around a bit. And Acrobat's help is a good place to start.
