Is it possible to create a form with simple calculations (x number of item 1 * $10 + x number of item 2 * $5) include a PayPal button that allows people to submit a payment for the calculated amount?

Sure it's possible. You have to set up the form to submit as "HTML" and set up the (hidden) required and optional fields that PayPal uses. If you need help performing the calculations, you might want to provide more details about your form.
