I haven't purchased Acrobat Pro X yet, but I really need to create a "print only" form where users can pull up the fillable form on their desktop, fill out the fields, and print it. (Disable the save and email feature) Is this possible?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.1, Windows

rconarroe,

Any version of Acrobat Professional will let you create a fillable form that can only be viewed & printed in Adobe Reader. Just be careful not to use the Distribute forms feature (that automatically un-locks the Save function for Adobe Reader in version 9 and newer). Also, don't Enable Usage Rights after building the form. Simply use your own Submit button that delivers your data to a URL (you will need a CGI script on the server to collect the data). Ted Padova's PDF Forms book is an excellent resource for these tasks.

I'm using the Trial version right now. When starting a new form, it prompts me to import an Excel or Word doc where the form details were originally created. When editing the preferences, I've tested the Security settings by enabling the "filling in forms only" option. However, when I go to save as a user (with the fields populated) it's storing the field information as well. It would be awesome if I could disable the save function and email function of the document. This will allow us to limit the document to printing and nothing else. Any suggestions?

If you are using Acrobat Pro, it can always save the data (you might be able to disable that through a JavaScript). You need to fill out and test the form in Adobe Reader to see the security settings work. That is where save is disabled (unless you enable it). Are you quitting Acrobat Pro after making the form, then launching Reader and opening it?

On a side note, most forms are created in other applications (Office, InDesign, etc) then turned into a PDF and made fillable in Acrobat Pro. Originally, Acrobat couldn't make new files from scratch (in the menu), that was added more recently.

Do not apply "Extended Reader Rights" to the form.

Use the "Security" property of the PDF to apply the desired security method and set the properties to prevent saving user saving.
