PRINTING FORM WITH FIELDS HIGHLIGHTED/NAMES FOR EDITING

This sounds basic but I cannot find the answer - I suspect because all questions pertain to printing the field DATA.

I imported a form into Acrobat X and it recognized most fields, not all and of course it needs to be cleaned up. I prefer to review and write on the form on paper first (I work remotely so the screen view is not always ideal) and then go to the screen/PC to do the work. I know how to print the form with DATA filled out (as if i sent it to someone and they filled it out and I only want the data). However how do i print out a copy of the form with the fields highlighted in the EDITING process? In other words how do I print what I see on screen (without doing screen shots) while in editing mode. It seems easy but I cannot find how to do it.

Thank you for reading I hope this makes sense!!

Wow, you'd sure think something like that would be easy? Unfortunately there is no automatic or built-in solution for what you want to do. You'll need to change the background color of the fields manually.

There is an easy way to do this. Select all the fields at once by activating the "Select Object" tool and then press "Ctrl-A". Right click on one of the selected fields and select "Properties" to display the field properties dialog. Change the background color from the Appearance tab. When you're done, change them back.

This could also be automated with a script.

Thank you for your quick reply. I tried your suggestion however, when I highlight all of the fields (select, control+A) i then cannot select properties when I right click. It is greyed out. Have you tried this on your end.

I also tried it on one cell and the option you want under the appearance tab is "fill color" but it does not print the tag/name of the form field. I know - something like this should be easy!!!

If there are links or markup annotation on the PDF, then they will also get selected. Since they are a different type of object the properties window won't be available. You have to select only the form fields. Go to Form Edit mode and do the selection from the Fields window. Put the focus on the fields window and press Ctrl-A. Then place the cursor over one of the selected fields on the page and right click. That should do it.
