Problems with Prices via the Number Format Tab

I have a form that has a field to indicate the price of a purchased item. After clicking the field's properties, I used the Format tab to dictate a price format. The formatting properties are as follows: 2 decimal places, a comma separating style, a $ symbol, a space after the symbol, and no negative number style selected.

The problem I am having, however, is that when I exit form editing mode and click in the corresponding field to enter a price, a $ symbol and a decimal appear but I am not able to enter any numbers at all. The cursor remains in the field, but no information can be typed. I have not had any similar problems with other fields in the same document so I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong.

Any help is much appreciated!

Do you have a default value in options? Also, check that you are actually typing numbers (not letters) to test the field (sorry I know this is obvious, but I have to ask). Finally, have you checked your Font size under appearance? I often set it to 10 or 12 point instead of auto.

No, I do not have anything in the default value and I am typing numbers. After your suggestion, I did play around with the font size because it was set to auto, but neither 10 nor 12 point font worked. I am still having the same issue.

Can you think of any other thing that might be causing it?

Do you have the field set as a 'read only' field. Since prices are fixed or set by a script, you might want to set the default price value in the optional default value and if you use JavaScript to set the price, then you would want to set the 'value' and 'defaultValue' properties. The default value is the value the field is set to if the form is reset.

I don't have the field set as "read only." Would that have an impact on me being able to test the field?

If I use or assign a default value to the field, I would not be able to assign a specific price format, correct? The only reason I would feel a little uncomfortable putting a default value in is that the price of an item that people are recording will obviously differ. I'm concerned that if there is a default value, some people will overlook that field without entering the actual price.

Is there any way to make the "Number" (in my case $) format work so that when the field is clicked, only a $ sign and a decimal appear so people can record a price (like I described above....the initial effect of what I currently have is what I want the field to do, but it won't let me enter any numbers)?

You can use a default value of 0, then the price will display as $0.00 and hopefully that will lead the user to believe they have to actually enter the price.

Also, when having issues with an individual field, I often find deleting the field and re-building it quicker than trying to troubleshoot. Typically, in re-building it, I end up fixing the issue.

Yes, I've just found out that is definitely the easiest and sometimes most effective way to solve the problem...just to start with a clean slate.

Thanks for the help and advice!
