RFFR on InDesign file makes fields from guides

I am creating a form in InDesign CS2, exporting PDF with the "create layers" checked for Acrobat 8.1.1

Initially it would not convert the page to a form if I had more than two layers: the background and the field lines layer. Any guesses why that is?

More to the point, now I have the InDesign file as two layers and bring the guidelines over in the PDF to use for creating/lining up my fields. When I run RFFR, it picks up the guidelines too and makes a "checkerboard" of fields among the guidelines.

How can I get it to ignore the guides when converting, but still show them so I can make my field adjustments?

Any advice welcome to save my head re: the wall.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.1, Windows

Hi mfh,

If I'm understanding you correctly, one thing you can do is convert your InDesign file to PDF without the guides, then use the grid feature in Acrobat for fine adjustments to field placement. In Acrobat 8 Pro, turn on the grids from the menu item View ->Grid. The grid units can be modified in Acrobat's preferences, Edit -> Preferences ->General, then choose the Units and Guides option in the left side panel.Hope this helps,

Thanks Dimitri

I would like to convert the InDesign file with the guides and not redraw them once it's in Acrobat. The guides are snapped to the elements in the InDesign file and would at best be approximations if applied in Acrobat.

I don't think the guides are really the probelm. I downloaded Ted Padova’s golf order example and his file had 4 layers, with guides, and converted properly. That was an Illustrator file.

Is there some setting in InDesign, or a specific layer order to use to avoid the errors, or keep Acrobat from making fileds from the spaces between guides? Is this the proper functioning of the RFFR feature in Acrobat--to use guides, not lines, to create fields?

Hi mfh,

I don't use InDesign (yet), so can't help with conversion settings in that program. Maybe an InDesign/Acrobat user will jump in here with the solution.
Ted, where are you???

Hope this helps,
