I am trying to convert a long (19 page) pdf to a fillable pdf and would love to use the run form field recognition option, but it is greyed out and not available? I am using acrobat 8.1 on a mac.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Jennifer,

Is your document a scanned file? We may need a little more info on how the PDF was created. If you scanned pages and saved as PDF you first need to recognize the text using OCR. Also try selecting Forms > Edit Form in Acrobat. If you still have problems, report back and give a little more detail on how the PDF was created and from what original authoring application.ted

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I am not the original creator of the document so I do not know its origins. It was a PDF that someone requested that I turn into a fillable PDF. I did try to recognize text using OCR. I can't remember exactly what the response was but something to the effect that it was already text.

I tried to look at the properties of the document to see if I could discern how it was created but either the information is not there or I don't know how to access it.

I am sorry that I do not have more details.

Thanks,
Jennifer

You could try to add tags to the PDF and then doing the field recognition, or just use Acrobat's formtool to add the necessary form fields or import the PDF into LiveCycle Designer and add the necessary field objects.
