Saving Data in PDF Form

What specific directions are you following?

Is this a form you created in LiveCycle Designer (by hitting the Form menu item in Acrobat and choosing Create New Form)? Or is this a form you created in Acrobat? Some people have had trouble with this because they apply Reader Usage Rights in LiveCycle Designer using the Distribute Form commands, then go into Acrobat and apply the Enable Rights again there.

Enabling Reader Usage Rights has to be the last thing you do- any changes made after applying the rights will DIS-able them and require you to apply them again.

I find the differences and Adobe's explanation between LifeCycle Designer and Acrobat to be slightly confusing. It seems (to me) that if your editing or creating forms, especially form fields, the tools available to you in LifeCycle Designer are far superior than Acrobat alone, however, why then I-just-have-to-ask, did Adobe decide that if someone wanted to enable Reader rights (in a form) in Adobe Reader, you would have to FIRST switch (the form) in to Acrobat to enable these rights? The enabling feature is available in LifeCycle's menus, however as I have read in a few other people's posts, it has been said that you must enable these rights in Acrobat, not LifeCycle Designer! (come on Adobe, this is very confusing and causing many problems for anyone creating forms). Hope this helps everyone else having this issue.

Well, you are not alone in this confusion. Adobe has combined two completley separate (yet connected) programs in one box. For example, when you have Acrobat open and you hit the "Create New Form" command it opens up LiveCycle Designer- MANY people do not understand after doing this they are no longer using Acrobat, they are using a different program altogether. Conversly, it is not very intuitive that when you use Enable Rights commands in LiveCycle Designer you are acutally using Acrobat to do that under the covers, not LiveCycle Designer. LiveCycle Designer does not have the capability of applying Usage Rights at all- Acrobat does. So you can apply the rights from inside the LiveCycle Designer program, but Acrobat is the program that actually applies them. In addition, when the Distribute Forms command is used in LiveCycle Designer, the Form Distribution Options Wizard that opens is opening IN Acrobat, not LiveCycle Designer. When Distribute Form is used, the form is automatically enabled with Usage Rights. Not sure if this lessens the confusion or not, but that is my stab at explaining it.
