Selecting form tools crashes Acrobat 8 Prof

If I take an existing form that was created in Acrobat 7 Prof and open it in Acrobat 8 to edit form fields it crashes when I try to choose a tool. I have checked Adobe site and their list of possible OSX fixes - tried them all and still crashes. This new version of 8 is worthless to me. Help please

Sorry to hear about your frustration.

Contact the author of the version 7 PDF and find out if the form was developed in LiveCycle or Acrobat. You can not edit a LiveCycle form in Acrobat.

Check the security settings for the form and its other properties. You can not edit a form if it has certain security settings that prevent editing. Make sure the form was developed with an authentic version of Acrobat and not a clone.

You might also try clicking Help, Repair Acrobat Installation.

Actually I created the other forms myself in Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional. I do not use LiveCycle. I did check security settings and other properties - what other properties besides security settings would prevent me editing the document?
