Is there a way to make conditional fields that disable entire sections

In Acrobat 8 Professional, is it possible to make conditional fields (without using JavaScript), so that if the user makes a choice within a set of mutually exclusive radio buttons, the rest of the form becomes unnecessary and is grayed out? If this can't be done, is this supported in a newer version?

Also, is there a way to make a form field for a series of numbers--e.g., 9 digits to be entered in 9 boxes in a single form field? I'm currently making a text field for each number, but I've seen hundreds of forms with spaces for letters or numbers so I assume there's a "real" way to do this.

If an upgrade would give me these capabilities, I will try to buy it. Thanks for any advice.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.0, Windows

Hi pspear,

The tutorial "Disabling (Graying-out) Form Fields" with downloadable sample files included to examine the code should be helpful-
http://www.acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/09/js_disabling_fields

I think for the 9 digit field a "Comb field" might be what you are asking for- add a text field then check the Comb field and enter the number of digits under the Options tab in the text field's Properties dialog.

No need to upgrade for either of those capabilities.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Hi, Dimitri,
Thanks very much! The "Comb field" works perfectly. I'm struggling with the "Disabling (Graying-out) Form Fields" document but maybe after I've read it a few more times it will sink into my brain. I have never used JavaScript before. Do you happen to know if a new version of Acrobat has features which automate disabling form fields? It seems like it would be a much-requested/needed feature. Thanks again.
