Total Newbie Question: Random/Unique number in a text field

Hi All

I'm a total newbie to scripting in Acrobat Pro but I'm sure I have a really simple question for someone.

All I'm wanting is a text field on a PDF form that when opened generates a random/unique set of numbers each time. I've done a search and found a few answers which point me in the right direction but I don't know where to begin to implement the solution. From what I understand I think this would be a document script at opposed to a calculation script in the text field itself.

Like I said I'm totally new to scripting in Acrobat and would really appreciate any help.

Thanks for the link I'll use this as bedtime reading. Any chance someone could point me in the right direction with my problem in this instance?

He also created [url=http://www.acrobatusers.com/auc/content/landing_pages/tech_talks/downloads/LCTechTalkSamples.pdf]sample files[/url], which you can download and use for unique number generation for forms created in LiveCycle designer.

Thats for that I'll give them a look. Can't seem to access the sample scripts in the sample files as its saying something about being an XML form!!?!?!??!

Which one is giving you the problem -- Generate_Unique_Ids.pdf? Try opening it up in LiveCycle Designer.

Don't actually have LiveCycle Designer, I'm on a Mac and from what I understand its a Windows product.
