visible (But Don't Print)

I have a form that requires users to fill in blanks and check boxes. I want to add instructions but do not want the instructions to be printed. The text function "Visible (But Don't Print)" is grayed out. And I can not find a way to select the text .

Several possibilities here. Are you using a text field to hold the message? If so, is the field Locked? Make sure you use a text field, you have access to the field properties, and the Locked checkbox iis disabled.
