Checkbox data not saving in Reader

I created a form in Acrobat 8 Pro/LiveCycle Designer. At first it had an e-mail submit button. The form could be opened, completed, and saved in Reader 7.x (including checkbox data). I then had to change the submit button into an http submit. Now Reader 7.x will not save which checkboxes are checked. Reader 8.1 will. Any way to fix this so 7.x will work? It's not possible to upgrade all form users to 8.1

This is about the strangest thing I've ever heard, or at least it would be if I didn't spend half my days answering questions on this forum. Anyway I don't believe it. I'd have to see the form to believe it. But if you're right, this is a bug in Acrobat.
