Creating a Page Number Field

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to create a page number field, so that the person who is filling out the form willl enter 1 on the first page, and then the page number will increase automatically with each new page (1, 2, 3... ).

I usually do this on the master page using the custom Page # of # in Adobe LiveCycle in Acrobat Professional 8.0. However, as I mentioned in a previous thread, when I encrpyt the document, the numbers disappear and I only have "Page of."

Therefore, I am trying to find a work around, and I figured if the page number was a numeric field that the filler placed the first number in, then perhaps the numbers would not disappear after they encrypted the form.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Can you explain what do you exactly mean with "excrypt the document"?

What I mean is that when I go to secure the document using a password, I only allow print capabilities. It says "Encrpyt with a Password." Then it asks you to save after you choose your settings, and once I save, the page numbers go away.

Instead of seeing like "Page 1 of 2" it says "Page of." When I print I need the page numbers of the document.

I'm confused.

Do you create a dynamic PDF-form (XML) to allow the users to add more instances of a page at runtime?
If so, it's can't be possible to encrypt the file, this is only available with static PDF's.
But those can't proceed actions like add a new instance of a page or such things.

?
