Hi all

I made a form in LiveCycle v.8 and put on the form
some fileds to fill by the user an email button
and a button for "Save Data on Local Disk"
with the script: xfa.host.exportData ("",0);

This form is sent to the client by email for fill with
adobe reader 8.

Does the user need to install on his existing adobe reader
any extension to allow the data to save on the
local drive ?

Thank's for any help

To save any PDF form, you must enable extended reader form rights.

Try enabling user rights. In Acrobat 8 Pro , click on the Advanced menu then select Enable User Rights in Adobe Acrobat for use of the form by 500 or fewer users. If you do not have Acrobat 8 Pro you will either need to purchase LiveCycle ES or find a licensed 3rd party vendor.

Hi George

This item in "advanced" menu "Enable User Rights in Adobe Acrobat"
is grayed (disable), maybe this problem is the same as in my another
question about the options in Trust Manager > Change Settings
are also disabled all

Thank for your replay

This applies to a given PDF, you have to open the specific PDF form you want the Extened Rights Enabled for. This PDF can not have any security or other special settings are applied.

Be sure to keep a backup copy of the form before the extended rights are applied!

Be aware that many versions of Acrobat have menu items that are only enabled when given conditions are meet, like having an open document. Version 8 has taken this a step further and certain menu options are only seen when the conditions for use of that item apply, like editing AcroForms.

It would be curious to know whether the export function now works. I'm having the same problem and I just could not solve it with enabling user rights. As far as I understood from other forums, to be able to export xml from Reader, the document needs to be certified. If that is the case, then the documentation for the exportData method is quite misleading in the Help of LiveCycle Designer, because it says that the first parameter (the filename) must only be defined in the method IF the document is certified. It doesn't say that it needs to be.
I'd be happy to read an answer.
Thanks in advance:

hey Martin, I'm with the same problem. Enabling Usage Rights in Adobe Reader through Adobe Acrobat isn't enough. I've read that the document has to be certified so the exportData method (with the filename given or not) works in Adobe Reader.

Hi.

I've steel have the same problem.
A simple form I built in LCD 8.2 with a button
for save an xml file on the local disk.
I opened the form in Acrobat 9 and cliked on
Advanced -> Extend Features in Adobe Reader
now when I opend this form in Reader somthing is happened:
this step canged just one option:
Signing: Allowed
before, it was Not Allowed
But the importent option: Page Exruction steel is Not Allowed.

I read some tutorials and from the forum I read that for save data on
the disk you must "sertificate" the form.
So, how to do this ? I dont know.

I read also that for sertificate a form you need to do this with

Rights Managments ES that you need to install
and belong with this instalation ,it is create
a "defaoult policy set" that called "Global policy set"

but to do so you need to install first of all an
Live Cycle ES Workbench

and before you install this software you need to
install and set up Live Cycle ES Server.

Is it realy so complicated or I'm just lost my way

please help...

Just enabling the form in Acrobat won't allow you to use the exportdata command, however for some reason, it will let you use the importdata command.

This is privacy issue addressed by Adobe restricting the use of certain methods. One can work around these restrictions by either using the privileged and "trustedFunction" or have their form certified. The use of the privileged and "trustedFunction" require using folder level JavaScripts on the users system while the certified document will let others use these features without having to change their installation of Acrobat/Reader but the user will be warned that personal data could be at risk when the form is opened. This is privacy issue addressed by Adobe restricting the use of certain methods.
