Editing forms in Acrobat supposed to open LiveCycle designer...

I have a .pdf open in Adobe Acrobat Professional 8. Then I click "Forms", then "Edit Form in Designer...".
Acrobat brings up this message box:

When I click "OK", the form closes in Acrobat and LiveCycle does not start.

I've done these steps with Windows Task Manager open while watching the Processes tab and I can see a process called "FormDesigner.exe" appear after I click "OK", but a few seconds later it disappears. I'm left with Acrobat open and no file open in it. LiveCycle does not start.

Any ideas as to what's causing this?
I'm running Windows XP SP3.
2GB of RAM.

(It works fine for me to start LiveCycle by itself from the Start menu, and then open the .pdf through LiveCycle. It's just a hassle and it doesn't make sense to me why it isn't starting through the Acrobat "Forms" menu.)

My Product Information:
LiveCycle Designer, Windows

We upgraded to Acrobat 9 to see if the problem is still an issue and it is. When "Edit Form in Designer" is clicked, the LiveCycle startup graphic shows and then nothing happens. Acrobat 9 is left open with no document open, and LiveCycle does not start.

Well,

did you try to start LCD itself from the start menu and then to open your PDF?
If the LCD starts fine but collapses when opening the form, you can try this hint.

Otherwise, if the LCD closes always automatically after about 10 seconds, even if you did nothing but watching the startup, then there may be an problem with your program registration like an invalid key.

Another thing to consider, is that if you have applied "Extended Reader From Rights" you can not edit that copy of the form. You will need to go back to a backup copy of the PDF without the exteded rights or an XML form file.

I am having the same problem with Acrobat 9.2 Pro Extended and LiveCycle Designer 8.2. It was working fine, then just stopped working as it should. I can open forms in LiveCycle, but can no longer trigger LiveCycle from Acrobat as I used to do.

When using Acrobat to trigger LiveCycle (either via the form wizard or via "edit form in Designer") here is what happens now:
- a splash screen appears saying that designer is opening
- the document closes in Acrobat while Acrobat stays open
- then nothing -- LiveCycle does not appear

If I watch the windows task manager, I can see FormDesigner.exe appear briefly in the list of processes, then it disappears.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, and my Acrobat and other Adobe programs are all the most recent and have all been updated, uninstalled, reinstalled, updated again. I have spent days trying to sort out this problem because it is really irritating and I am not sure what else may not be working while this problem persists. Following some of the suggestions in various threads, I have tried renaming the Designer/8.2 folder, deleting the entire Designer folder . . . but nothing has worked. The problem persists.
