Enable usage rights in adobe reader

We have created a fillable PDF in LiveCycle 8 and want our users to be able to save the file as a PDF and/or send it as an e-mail attachment. We also want them to be able to use the comment tools.

When I test it on a PC with Acrobat Professional 8 everything works fine.

So that it would work on PCs without Acrobat Professional 8 that only have Reader 8, we used enable usage rights in adobe reader.

When the users access the form through our intranet using Internet Explorer 6 and Adobe Acrobat Reader 8, they are not able to type in the fields. If we remove enable usage rights in adobe reader they can type in the fields but not save it or send an e-mail.

Any suggestions?

This issue is that the users have the ability to save over the original form (wherever that is located) The moment they do that the form becomes static and prevents anyone else entering data. What you have to do is lock up the directory the form is located on, to "Read Only" this way the form can never be saved to it's original location and every time the user opens the form it is as it was originally designed. The user can still save a copy to another location or e-mail. I recently went through the same drama.

We should be ok with them overwriting the file. Users download the file from our intranet server.

I think what it was is the work process. We created the form in LiveCycle Designer 8; enabled usage rights in Acrobat Pro 8 and posted the file. The file was then edited in LiveCycle Designer 8 and reposted and that is when it did not work.

If we save a copy of the file to disable the usage rights then edit it in LiveCycle Designer 8 and then go back into Acrobat Pro 8 and reenable the usage rights it works.
