FormFlow (.xft files)

Hi there

I have inherited a (very) old project (actually it's a project to upgrade a bunch of existing code from VB6 to .Net but that's a different story...)

The existing code has around 300 form templates that were created a number of years ago, each of which has the .xft file extension. Elsewhere in the code there are included libraries and API calls that lead me to believe that these templates were created using FormFlow's Designer software.

These forms also need to be upgraded as FormFlow designer was end-of-lifed in 2004, and I have no access to the FormFlow software to develop against.

I believe that the evolution of FormFlow's Designer software has ultimately led to Adobe LiveCycle; however I am unable to open any of the .xft files using LiveCycle. When I go to File->Open I see the .xft extension in the dropdown under Adobe Form Designer 5.0 files, but when I attempt to open one of the .xft files LiveCycle hangs (eating 100% CPU) and I eventually have to kill the process via task manager.

I'm running LiveCycle ES 8.2.

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas on how I can open these files it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi fiveeuros,

Can you post the form? Designer can import .xft files so this could be a bug. You can report bugs at www.adobe.com -> Send Feedback link -> Report a Bug link.Hélène

Hi Hélène

thanks for the reply. I can't see an option to attach the form to this post :(

That said, I think the issue here may be the age of the .xft files that I need to convert; they are all around 9 or 10 years old and look to have been created with FormFlow's predecessor of Adobe Form Designer. I'm not just seeing this issue with a single form either; it's with each and every .xft that I have (so far) tried to open in LiveCycle.

I dug around in the LiveCycle help files and came across an entry saying that the .xft file type is supported, but for 'Adobe Form Designer 5.0 or later'.

I suspect that the .xft files that I have are incompatible with LiveCycle - I'd love someone to prove me wrong though!

Hi

just to confirm that it was the age/format of the .xft files that was causing the issue. I cam across some newer .xft files in a different folder in the project, gave one of them a go and it opened in LiveCycle without a hitch.

(The folder that the newer .xft files where in is called 'Converted'; I'm assuming that these have been converted from FormFlow .xft to Adobe .xft format... although how, I have no idea).

Apologies for the scattergum approach but I'm new to a lot of this :)
