Free Reader Vs Alternative

Hello All

I am new to this forum.

I have been reading all week trying to understand how I can import/export data using free reader. the form was created using livecycle design.

I know learn that i might need to enable "reader extension rights" to the PDF file. If I do then it would seem that there is a limit to the number of forms i can distribute to 500. i also want to upload/download data which needs to be imported via a xml file from a server where i want to import it form a csv file on my local pc. more work for me to convert to xml and fidle with.

So this has made me think if this is the best way to go about. an alternative is a custom PDF reader.

So does anyone know if it is legal to use an alternative reader such as foxit or to create a custom pdf reader which i can add the features i want.

Does adobe prohibit you from doing this. do they have a monopoly on this industry.

Given the number of alternatives available (many at no cost)and the high cost of Adobe reader extensions, many users are making the switch. Check out the Nuance reader

You can use whatever PDF viewer you want, but there are technical issues.

No non-Adobe PDF viewer is likely to be as conforming to the PDF spec as Adobe Acrobat/Reader, especially with respect to XFA forms created with LiveCycle Designer. And if you're using 2D barcodes, I'd be surprised if any other PDF viewers support them. All of the other viewers I've tested provide just a subset of support for JavaScript, as another example.

Foxit won't tell you what JavaScript their reader supports, so you have to find out by trial and error. It imports/exports acroform data as FDF. I haven't gotten Foxit Reader to work with XFA forms at all.
