I am using adobe live cycle. I am having a hard time inserting an image so that it is clear and crisp. I have tried .png, .jpg, .eps (doesn't work at all), and .gif. Nothing seems to maintain transparency. Looks good on the screen(in acrobat) but when I print, does not look good. Any help?

Have you tried using the new import features of Designer 8 to import PDF as a background? Here is a URL to further information:
