In rich text fields using available fonts like Arial, how can I allow users to insert Greek or other symbols?

Hi --

You can't. When you build the form and specify the font used for inputting characters, if the desired characters aren't within the font's information the user can't insert other font information.

Not being able allow the user to insert symbols into a rich text field is a real limitation, and a surprising one especially for scientific documents. There has got to be a workaround.

For example, a greek mu is Unicode character 03BC. Is there a font of western letters that is extended to include these characters?
Alternatively, is there a way to make a tool that the user can click on to display a box containing a restricted set of supplemental characters, such that when the character is clicked on, the unicode character is inserted into the text box?
thanks for your help!

Well, if you open up the character map program within windows XP 'charmap.exe'
then you can find the symbol you want and paste it into an acrobat form field. An easier way to do this would certainly be fantastic. I really wish there was a way to be able to type in the unicode for symbols and have them show up like in Word.
