Now you see it, now you don't form data

This is a variation on the "why isn't my form data saved in my PDF file?" question, but with a nice twist.

I created a form with LiveCycle Designer (Pro 7). I successfully saved data inside the form using Pro 7.

But the minute I uploaded the saved, data-filled form to a Microsoft Sharepoint site, the form data vanished -- if someone other than me opened it. I can open the form from the Sharepoint site just fine and the data's there. But anyone else opening the file sees a blank form.

A coworker tried filling out the form with Standard 6 and had a similar experience in both Sharepoint and Microsoft CRM, except that sometimes the form displays the data and sometimes it doesn't. For him, it seems to depend on whether Standard 6 is already running or not (!) when he opens the PDF from either Sharepoint or CRM.

All we want to do is fill out this darned form and upload the saved data to both utilities.

Any ideas why the data's playing peek-a-boo with us?

Have you made PDF a format part of SharePoints document library controls?

It appears you will have to checkout the PDF and then edit the PDF in Acrobat. As noted in the link SharePoint does not provide this capabilty, it only supports MS Office documents, out of the box. This means you have to have SharePoint customized.

Thanks for the reply, gkaiseril.

I'll have to submit a support ticket (I have no idea what city our Sharepoint server is actually in) to get this looked into.

But I forgot to mention an important point: That when I open a saved, filled-in PDF that my coworker emails to me, that PDF comes up blank, too.

It seems as though the PDF form is "forgetting" its contents once it leaves home or once Acrobat is put to bed.

We've decided that the problem is our mismatch in Adobe versions.

The saved forms out of Acrobat Standard 6 won't display their data in Pro 7 whether they're accessed from Sharepoint, CRM, a network, locally, or email.

However, saved forms out of Pro 7 display in all of these cases.

Our solution is to update everyone to the same version (probably 8).

Good luck, ArizonaD. Hope this helps....

There are actually 2 pieces to the problem: Putting information into the form and getting information out of it.

For the first piece, we're getting around the pricing problem by using Pro 8 to create the form and then enable usage rights. The usage-enabled form is then sent out to the techs, who fill in the forms using Reader.

For the second piece, managers who want to collect the data use Pro 8 to generate the spreadsheets of data.

This enables our organization to purchase only a limited number of Pro 8 seats while the vast majority uses the free reader.
