"This operation is not permitted"

Hi, new here & not an expert.
I created two similar forms in Livecycle Designer 8 from two similar Word documents; one called "general", one called "new homes". Their use requires them to be completed electronically & returned online for viewing, not for collation of data from them. Therefore I created extended user rights for people completing them who use Reader, not Acrobat.

The new homes version works fine, opens without any problem.
The general version, when opening in either Reader 7 or Acrobat 8 Pro gets the message "This operaiton is not permitted". OK needs to be clicked twice to complete the opening of the documents and after that all seems fine.

I have seen in other posts that the problem is thought to relate to non-embedded fonts. However I have checked both documents through Preflight & both show there are non-embedded fonts. So, as the new homes file opens without the error message it can't be that.

Whilst the problem does not prevent use of the form I don't really want to have to explain that users need to ignore the error & click OK twice before proceeding.

Any help gratefully received.

Did you import the Word file as artwork? If so, did you check the underlying PDF to make sure that all fonts were imported? You can also use the function Document --> Examine Document feature in Acrobat Pro. prior to importing a PDF as artwork in LiveCycle. You can also find hidden text and deleted hidden page content, which may cause the issue as well.

Thanks for the reply. I created the forms using "start with an electronic document" in Acrobat 8 Pro, from a Word document. I didn't use an import artwork method.
Fonts were substituted automatically during the form creation process.
As the other form was created in the same way with the same fonts & opens fine I can't see how fonts can be the issue.
To use Examine Document, I had to save a copy as it won't allow Examine Document when extended features have been applied. This is a circular catch 22 problem - I can't examine the document with extended features yet it's having extended features that causes the problem I want to examine!
In the copy I created without extended features I ran Examine Document & removed all items other than "Form field logic or actions" - obviously this had to be left to enable the form fields to be used. I saved the revised version; it opened fine. But as soon as I enabled extended features again in this version the error arose again. To summarise, when I remove the extended features (usage rights for Reader) by saving a copy, that copy then opens fine without the double error messages ("this operation is not permitted"). As soon as I re-enable the extended features I then get this same error message on opening the file; clicking OK twice is needed to continue. But the other similar version of the form opens fine with extended features.

Maybe I need to start from scratch on the version that has the error.

I've done that, re-created the form pretty well exactly as before & now the new one works fine, with or without extended features activated. So I'll probably never find out what went wrong.
