When I create a form using LiveCycle Designer, then open the form in Acrobat 9 Pro, the option to Reduce File Size doesn't work (choosing Document > Reduce File Size does nothing... no error message, but nothing happens). Is this to be expected? Also, the option to run PDF Optimizer is 'grayed out'. Is there any way to optimize the PDF form? LiveCycle seems to create quite large files.

Hi,

PDF that have been designed by Designer are totally different to general PDF's and cannot be optimized by Acrobat.

radzmar,

Thanks for the scripting references.

The pdf forms created with LiveCycle Designer have a very large filesize, in some cases 500% larger than the equivalent form created with Acrobat. Are there any design practices that would shrink the LiveCycle file sizes?

If your PDF doesn't require strict designings, then you can try not embedding the fonts.
Font information is usually embetted by default and uses quite a size.
You can select the option by following menu in LiveCycle Designer.

File -> Form Property -> Save Options

Thanks for the suggestion. By removing the default option to embed fonts, and using a common font such as Arial, the filesize was reduced from 600K to 40K !

Now if there were only a way to change the default font from Myriad Pro to Arial, I would be very happy. If you know a way to change the default font, please post the answer here.

Hi,

You'll probably need to change the object in Library.

Take a look in to this topic.
